To call her a fashion enthusiast is an under-statement. This girl has fashion written in her genes. Naturally she cannot go unnoticed so FROM HATS TO HEELS, her blog, is the destination you have to visit. Larissa shares her fashion tips as well as her personal style, her travel experiences and her lifestyle.
Who is Larissa behind From Hats to Heels?
I am a life loving psychologist turned stylist, nowadays mainly working on my blog. It takes up 80% of my time, but I love that since it’s both my job and my passion. When I am not working on my blog, I am traveling (still making tons of pictures), having fun with friends and family (a lot of pics as well) or taking some time off with series, music (not so many pictures).
As your name suggest you like to be dressed up from hats to heels (or more so from head to toe). How do you choose what will you wear?
I often create my outfits based on the occasion. Then I think of the look I’d want to go for, for example something boho, something edgy or something chic and then I would pick one item that goes with the “theme”. I will then style that item up to something complete from head to toe, adding hats or heels if necessary et voilà.
How would you describe your personal style?
My style is a mixture of cool and chic. I always try to have both a tough and a feminine element in my outfits to create contrast and balance my personality out in the outfit.
Do you find accessories and shoes an important part of woman’s wardrobe?
I think that shoes often make an outfit complete. Sometimes a shoe is the statement of an outfit and I am very happy that shoes can sometimes take that roll because I loooove heels. Accessories can also do a lot and the older I get, the more I realize that sometimes leaving out some accessories can also do a lot for an outfit.
You call yourself a style therapist, because of your studies. Do you find that fashion and shopping can work as a therapy?
I do think that shopping can work as a therapy, especially for women. I remember how it sometimes made me feel good to just buy something small I really loved and spoil myself a little. Besides that I think that by buying what you like and giving yourself something new, you are not only working on self-care, but moreover you are creating an outside that matches your inside. Wearing happy colours and nice new things can really do something for your mood.
What attracts you in fashion and why have you decided to change studies? To go into fashion?
I am very visual, and I love aesthetics. I cannot really explain what it is that attracts me in fashion. Sometimes I’d really use the expression “fashion gives me life”. And that’s how I feel about it: fabrics & colours in clothing can really take my breathe away and fashion shows give me goosebumbs and adrenaline rushes haha. I think I have always loved fashion, but it wasn’t until my late teens that I wanted to do something with it. I was studying psychology at the time and decided that I needed a creative outlet besides that. When I finished psychology and worked in it for over a year some personal life lessons and events made me realize that this was the time to do it: go for it and follow my dream, because we only live once.
Do you have a style icon?
I do not really have a style icon, but I sometimes check on some fashion insiders to see what creative things they are doing with their clothing and stuff. For example, I think that Mira Duma and Christine Centenera are very inspiring. The same goes for Evangelie Smyrniotaki, blogger of Styleheroine.
What is your favourite brand?
I love a lot of brands, but mostly wear ASOS, River Island, Topshop and Missguided because these brands are very much on trend and so average or basic. When it comes to designers I love Balmain and Elie Saab.
What piece from your wardrobe gives you confidence?
My Perspex boots from Public Desire are doing a really great job in giving me confidence, since they have the perfect height to be comfortable and they really are a statement.
What do you splurge on?
I splurge on designer bags. I choose the ones that are timeless; they never go out of style and will only become worth more.
You never leave your home without..?
My phone and the abominable phone case that it’s in haha.
What are your beauty must haves?
A good shampoo and conditioner. I could not go without! Besides that: eye liner and nude pink-ish lipstick.
What do you find as an ultimate piece for transitional weather that is coming?
I think that denim jackets are doing a great job nowadays. In the Netherlands I have been wearing it all summer, since the weather is pretty bad, but I could also see myself wearing it in September and October with a sweater or something sassy.
