Personalisation in jewellery is becoming a fashion staple. It allows adding a special touch to the jewellery you are wearing, making it unique and only yours. In a world where individual style is what everyone seeks for, the option to having a say in jewellery, is priceless. Expressing the style through jewellery is just what jewellery brand Nikki Lissoni stands for. “Fashionable, high quality and sophisticated interchangeable jewellery that allows the wearer to personalise their look and express their own style,” are the words best describing the brand known specifically for the interchangeable jewellery and also how Katrien Coenders, Head Designer at Nikki Lissoni, sees her work.
Personalisation is a big part of Nikki Lissoni.
Why is it important that the customer can make the jewellery special to her?
We believe every customer has a desire to promote her individuality and style, so Nikki Lissoni provides a chic way to do this. The meaningful messages and matching emotion cards have the power to make any woman feel beautiful and positive, which just adds to the Nikki Lissoni story. Custom jewellery is an everlasting trend, but essential at the moment with catwalks all pointing towards an expression of personalisation in your signature look.
What makes the brand unique?
Not only do we have great communication between the design team, craftsmen and development department in our factory, but we also handcraft every piece of Nikki Lissoni, which makes us that extra bit special too. There's so much work involved with our method of creating jewellery, from the first drawing, which is carved in wax, through to the casting and onto the finishing, moulding, and final recasting – all before it even reaches the first customer. It's a process that involves a lot of care and precision, because each detail, no matter how small, plays a part in an items overall look.
We continue to develop our portfolio with our core values of affordable luxury, exceptional beauty and high quality in mind.
What attracts you when designing jewellery?
I think that the most important and challenging part of the process is when you try to translate your drawing into a real piece, as the idea on paper is often not that easy to bring to reality. So overcoming those little challenges, and therefore eventually finalising a beautiful piece is the most exciting part for me in the whole design process. I work to create designs that are not only unique but make women feel good about themselves.
What inspires your work?
Women from all over the world inspire me; women who dare to show their inner beauty especially. Their strength, dignity and desire are fearless and motivating.
Also travelling, visiting places and meeting people that you would never normally see inspires me enormously. Unfortunately, at this moment I don’t have much time to travel!
In what way do fashion trends have influence over your designs?
In a certain way they have a big influence, like the choker and single earring trend at this moment. But I also try to make timeless pieces and items with a meaning or statement that goes beyond fashion trends.
What kind of woman is Nikki Lissoni’s typical customer?
She is independent and sophisticated with a sense of fashion and style. The Nikki Lissoni customer is not afraid to express herself or celebrate her femininity.
Is jewellery an essential for a woman’s wardrobe?
Jewellery, as an everyday item, has larger significance than many people realise and here at Nikki Lissoni we champion it to add extra sparkle to an outfit, whether in the form of a chunky bracelet, layered necklaces, or dazzling earrings. Personalised jewellery especially promotes love and empowerment.
How can a woman make her style unique with her choice of jewellery?
People assume many things about personality, values and beliefs based on what others wear, so by consciously choosing what kind of statement to make, jewellery becomes more than just an adornment. A confidence booster and mood changer, jewellery allows you to be the person you want to be that day.
Who would you love to see wearing your designs?
Madonna, because she changed the perception of women through fashion and she revolutionized the way women looked at themselves. She is a strong woman, not afraid to show her femininity and personal style and it is inspiring to see her achieving so much success whilst still maintaining her individuality.
And if it was still possible I would love to see Audrey Hepburn wearing my designs, as she is one of the most iconic and classic beauties who has ever lived. Her beauty, grace, elegance and personality are all things to aspire to.
What is new for autumn winter 16?
The new tag bracelets with interchangeable magnetic tags are so different for us and we are really excited about them! This new collection gives the consumer more possibilities to express their own individuality.
Why have you decided to use coins in your collections? What meaning do they have?
It gives the consumer the possibility to mix and match pieces. Our coins highlight personal messages, inspiring quotes and emotive words, but I also design for beauty and aesthetic, so there is something for everyone!
What is your favourite piece from the latest collection?
That is a difficult choice as in my perception the winter collection has so many beautiful pieces. The new hammered styles, such as the pendant and bangle, are beautiful results of fine craftsmanship, but the coins with the teardrop Swarovski crystals, the statement charms and the necklaces with small tags in between are also some of my favourites.
